My Books

For over thirty years my constant companion on the waters in and around Fingal Bay has been my brave little 3.5 metre tinny "Stinkpot".

The little boat has become part of the family and is the smallest fishing boat to be launched into the ocean.

From "Stinkpot" I have caught many magnificent fish: mulloway, snapper, kingfish, drummer and many other species. I can go diving or setting a trap for lobster or just cruising along the beautiful coast line. This book gives you some idea of the great fun and excitement that I have had with this little boat.

Rather than reprint his first book "Somethin' Fishy", which was written in 1998 and has been unavailable for some years, John has chosen to select certain passages from the old book and combine them with current methods used by the new generation of recreational fishers.   The colour photos that have been selected graphically display the beauty of the islands, beaches and the Port not to mention the amazing fish.

"FISH Port Stephens" gives the reader an insight into the character of the author through the introductory chapters which could be considered autobiographic. The fishing information, spread throughout the book, has been gathered over many years from the very best local fishermen. The most popular and productive offshore  GPS marks have been printed for those who simply wish to catch a fish.

A fascinating history of an island that very few people know about. Situated 8 nautical miles north of the headlands at Port Stephens this island has many stories to tell.

The highs and lows of the oyster industry over the past 100 years. From being considered the biggest oyster farm in the world to total collaps - and then to rebuild.

"Old Salt" tells the history of commercial fishing in and around Port Stephens from the mid eighteen hundreds until today.

The latest book "Oysterman" is a compilation of the rise and decline of the oyster industry in the Port Stephens area.
